COVID-19 Sparks Awareness and Importance of Mental Health
COVID-19
is unlike any opponent our nation has ever battled. It is a different type of invader
our country has ever faced in ages. This microscopic aggressor is often
unnoticed and sustained. The impact of this battle on mankind has
not been experienced in generations ever. Well currently every human is equally
vulnerable in contracting the virus, some face high risks and the impact varies
from person to person.
Owing
to the pandemic, many countries including India have implemented various social
distancing measures. This has led to disturbances to people’s daily lives, as
most of them have restricted themselves from even stepping out of their houses.
As an entrepreneur it’s heart-wrenching to our evidence that this pandemic has had
brought great socio-economic uncertainties, giving rise to increased anxiety,
depression, addiction and to suicide the world over.
The
lockdown extension in India had made people’s lives in fear of losing
their businesses, jobs, earnings, saved funding or even basic possessions.
So,
this pandemic is distressing more than just the physical health, it’s impacting
people’s mental health too. The uninterrupted news coverage and daily hike
of the infection and death rates have left many with a deep sense of stress,
anxiety and depression. It can also aggravate with acute symptoms
for people with the minutest of any sort of mental health disorders. The
massive consequence of the pandemic over our mental health cannot be ignored.
As
a community, inevitably we must get sensitive to these uncertain
times, understanding the individual needs, and get proactive in addressing the
complex and other delicate factors associated in aiding vulnerable people
around us.
Therefore, mental health in short is one of
the subtle alerts for surviving this latest pandemic as this is all that
entails in the long run of our life. From this potential crisis we need to help
and recreate a post-pandemic society as this has been the greatest
challenge this generation has ever faced.
Take care of yourself and your community.
Taking care of your friends and your family
can be a stress reliever, but it should be balanced with care for
yourself. Need to take a step to help family and friends to cope with their
stress. People can still maintain social distancing and care for
their mental health. Phone calls or video chats can help
you and your loved ones feel socially connected, less left out or alone.
Healthy ways to cope with stress:
1. If you have learnt that you are sick and are concerned about COVID-19. Contact a nearest health professional! Less burn out the situation.
2. Being strong over your emotions helps you to think clearly with no disturbances.
3. Take short breaks from vigorous watching, reading, or listening to repeated news stories on pandemic, including those on social media which can get stressful.
4. Maintaining Physical fitness should become a routine.
5. Practice breathing techniques which can silence the minds creating a positive impact.
6. Eat a well-balanced meal and avoid excessive alcohol and drug use.
7. Practice good sleep patterns.
8. Talk over and Connect with loved ones.
9. Connect with the distressed people through social media, phone or mail.
When
you practice adequate self-care measures, if the situation demands we encourage
you to seek clinical measures too.
Even
though as a nation we are currently experiencing wearisome times. We are
also confident that our people have the courage and determination
to come out of this situation stronger and more united than ever.
We
at Champions believe and practice that as Indians we are together
and we will get through this pandemic in a healthy way out.
