It's International Women's Day Again; What Do We Do Different This Time?
In most of my
all-girls get together catching up and spending quality time, ‘we must do it
more often’ is always a unanimous declaration. Every time we meet, it’s the
same declaration and no one takes an initiative any further.
Looking
around, I thought things are not much different when it comes to celebrating
the International Women’s Day. Every year on the 8th of March on the
International women’s Day (IWD) we get our due importance at home, at work and
even on social media. And then, it
is business as usual from the very the next day.
If you have been feeling the same and want to make this women’s day a true liberating moment, here are some of my tips that can help you celebrate, but celebrate differently and celebrate the real cause and celebrate your womanhood.
Hold woman’s day celebration at work
Be proactive
and hold a woman’s day celebration at work. Invite all your office staff,
bosses including male colleagues. Offer a presentation on woman empowerment and
what needs to be done. You can also use this platform to discuss gender parity
and wage inequality at work more specifically in your company.
Look around
for your nearest woman’s networking event and attend the same. A networking
event is a great place to meet synergic people with similar passions. Do not
let this networking be limited to just your work profile. Explore woman
networking events across your interests be it culinary skills, fitness, dance
or music.
Host a woman film screening
Relive the
film buff in you by hosting a film screening this woman’s day. Invite all your
girl gang and watch a woman centric film or a movie made by a renowned woman
filmmaker or better still a film with woman as the main protagonist.
If you are a
book lover like I am, go on a reading spree. Check out women authors on your
favorite genres and topics and chose the book you feel drawn to.
Go online and
seek some inspiration by checking out women success stories, TED talks,
interviews of successful women entrepreneurs. After all IWD is all about being
inspired and inspiring fellow women.
